Most families are New Yorkers who leave the city for weeks or months at a time during the summer. This time of the year, they need childcare help from young women who can drive, swim, and stay energized throughout the day chasing children!
Placements take place in many surrounding summer towns. Each town has a handful of other nannies to explore and spend days off with.
-
Yes. On most occasions, nannies will live in the family’s guest bedroom.
-
These families understand that you need time to recharge after working long summer days with kiddos and are happy for you to explore new places. Nannies get 2 days off per week, and these two days are determined by the family. They are not always weekends.
Because this is such a short term role, “Vacation time” is not allowed. Week long trips or vacations are not granted, as you are expected to be present the entirety of your summer role.
-
Every scenario is different depending on the size of the family and the number of hours. If selected, the Nanny Agreement will spell out these details before the formal hire.
-
The school calendar in New York is a bit different than that most colleges go by. The children are in school through Memorial Day, and most summer travels happen in July and August. The kids do not go back to school until Labor Day.
Majority of placements start mid-June and last through late-August. We understand this can be tricky with returning to school and recruitment obligations. We are able to provide a proof of employment for your chapter.
-
Pairings are based on many factors, including experience, scheduling, and personality. The success of this network is based on the compatibility of the employers and employees. Because you will be working and living with these families for an extended amount of time, you must respect each other on a professional and amicable level.
Multiple nanny profiles are shared with interested families. Families make the final decision on which candidate they’d like to pursue. Interviewing doesn’t guarantee a match; some nannies may interview with multiple families before finding the right fit.
-
We understand that you (and your parents!) will be anxious to secure summer plans early on, but please understand the difference in these regional calendars. Many families do not start thinking about summer plans until March.
Because our process is based on availability, a timeline of when you will receive a placement is not guaranteed. Placements are not based on when you apply. Nanny Network works hard to place families with a nanny that fits their exact needs.
Excellent placements have been made as late as late May! Please understand these logistics up front that placements take time.
-
Once chosen by a family, you will receive a contract called the Nanny Agreement, which spells out expectations, schedules, and compensation. Hartwell will also review the agreement to ensure as many details as possible are addressed up front.
In your written application, you will be asked to list the dates you are available for Summer of 2025. This is extremely important to know for the pairing process, as we have to ensure we are presenting candidates to families that fit their specific timing needs.
It is important to understand that the New York school calendar is a month behind. The children are in school through Memorial Day and their summers end after Labor Day. Majority of jobs begin mid-June and last until mid-August, with majority of families looking for nannies for the duration of the summer.
We understand that August is a tricky month, particularly with Recruitment taking place at many universities. If you are someone who is willing to be excused from Recruitment, this is extremely beneficial to let us know! In the past, we have been able to provide Proof of Employment Letters that are valid excuses for sorority absences. Please check with your current executive members before making a commitment, as rules and regulations vary based on chapters.
